The MM2H application process, week by week

Not the brochure version — the realistic timeline from first document to issued visa, and where applications actually get stuck.

  1. Weeks 1–2

    Document preparation

Compile passport copies, recent bank statements showing proof of funds for the fixed deposit, a medical report, and a letter of good conduct. (Since June 2024 there is no separate offshore-income or liquid-asset test to evidence.) This stage takes longest when documents are scattered across jurisdictions — start early.

  2. Weeks 3–4

    Application submission

Your licensed MM2H agent submits the complete file. Incomplete submissions are the single biggest cause of delay, so the quality of your agent matters more than their fee.

  3. Weeks 5–12

    Processing

The authorities review your application. Timelines vary by tier — Silver is typically fastest, Platinum and Gold take longer due to additional verification.

  4. Weeks 13–16

    Conditional approval

On approval you receive a conditional letter. This is your trigger to place the fixed deposit and, where required, complete the property purchase at or above the tier minimum.

  5. Weeks 17–20

    Fixed deposit & endorsement

Place the fixed deposit in an approved Malaysian bank and submit proof. The deposit stays yours and earns interest; it is a parked allocation, not a fee.

  6. Weeks 21–24

    Visa issuance

Your visa is endorsed and issued. Dependants are processed alongside the main applicant. You are now a long-term resident.
