MM2H application checklist 2026
Every document, deposit and step — in order. Message us on WhatsApp to unlock the full guide, then save it to your phone or print it.
Step 1
Choose your tier
Your tier determines the fixed deposit, property minimum and visa duration. Use our MM2H calculator to see which tier fits.
| Tier | Fixed deposit | Property min. | Visa |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver | USD 150,000 (≈ RM 700K) | RM 600,000 | 5 years |
| Gold | USD 500,000 (≈ RM 2.3M) | RM 1,000,000 | 15 years |
| Platinum | USD 1,000,000 (≈ RM 4.7M) | RM 2,000,000 | 20 years |
| SEZ (Johor) | USD 32K–65K | RM 500,000 | 10 years |
Step 2
Prepare your documents
All documents must be valid, certified and in English (or officially translated). Your licensed agent will confirm exact requirements for your nationality.
- Valid passport — at least 12 months remaining (all applicants including dependants)
- Passport-sized photos (white background, recent)
- Cover letter (your agent prepares this)
- Personal bond (your agent prepares this)
- Police clearance / good conduct certificate from your home country (issued within 6 months)
- Medical report from a Malaysian-registered clinic or hospital
- Medical insurance valid in Malaysia (can be arranged after approval in principle)
- Marriage certificate (if including spouse)
- Birth certificates (if including children under 21)
- Proof of financial standing — bank statements showing capacity for the fixed deposit (typically 3–6 months)
Step 3
Engage a MOTAC-licensed agent
All MM2H applications must go through a licensed agent — there is no DIY route. Your agent handles the submission to MOTAC, liaises with immigration, and coordinates the approval process.
- Choose a licensed agent (verify their MOTAC licence number)
- Sign the letter of engagement
- Pay the agent’s professional fee (varies — ask for a full breakdown upfront)
Step 4
Application submission & processing
- Agent submits your application to MOTAC
- MOTAC reviews and processes (10–24 weeks depending on tier)
- Conditional approval letter issued
- You have 6 months from conditional approval to complete the next steps
Step 5
After conditional approval — within 6 months
Once you receive conditional approval, these must be completed before your visa is endorsed:
- Open a Malaysian bank account and place the fixed deposit (in USD)
- Purchase qualifying property at or above your tier’s minimum (see foreign buyer rules)
- Arrange medical insurance valid in Malaysia
- Pay the participation fee (RM 1,000 Silver / RM 3,000 Gold / RM 200,000 Platinum + dependant fees + 8% SST)
- Submit all post-approval documents to your agent
Step 6
Visa endorsement & move
- Agent submits post-approval documents to immigration
- Passport endorsed with MM2H visa sticker
- You are officially an MM2H participant — welcome to Malaysia

FAQ
Common questions
How long does the MM2H application take?
Processing typically takes 10–24 weeks depending on your tier and completeness of documents. Silver is generally fastest (10–18 weeks); Platinum can take up to 24 weeks.
Do I need a licensed agent to apply for MM2H?
Yes. Since the programme restructuring, all MM2H applications must be submitted through a MOTAC-licensed agent. There is no DIY route.
Is the MM2H fixed deposit refundable?
Yes. The fixed deposit is placed in a Malaysian bank in your name and is fully refundable if you cancel or do not renew. It earns interest while it sits. Gold and Platinum tiers allow partial withdrawal for approved purposes.
Can I work in Malaysia on MM2H?
No. MM2H is a residency visa, not a work permit. It does not grant the right to take up employment. Any business activity requires separate authorisation.
